Rather than simply prescribe a treatment for a given rash, we find the actual cause of the rash and see if this is something that can be eliminated from the patient’s environment and thus clear the rash with minimal exposure to medication. We realize that some rashes are chronic and we follow patients with treatment plans in order to maximize benefit while minimizing toxicity from topical and systemic drugs. In some cases, biopsy of the skin can help uncover the diagnosis of the rash. This is a simple in-office procedure. In other cases cultures of the skin or allergy testing may be necessary.
